He would study the genuine works of calligraphy and paintings in the misty water. Now, on the banks of Jiajiang River in Nanjing, “Cotton-D Contemporary Art Center” was built by a friend, Cao Jun. It is a contemporary “calligraphy and painting boat” moored by the river.

Cao Jun’s essence lies in his brushwork. Starting from winning awards as a teenager to studying under Huang Dun, a master of calligraphy, for decades, he has never ceased his practice. This “childish foundation” endowed him with a unique discerning eye that differs from the common crowd. When viewing oil paintings, he not only considers the color blocks and composition, but also pays more attention to the bone structure, brushstrokes, and the vitality of the overall effect. Because he deeply understands the principles of calligraphy, when he looks at the masters who returned from studying abroad in the 20th century, he essentially uses oil paints to continue the core spirit of “New Literati Painting”.

The opening exhibition “The Return of the Masters” marks the maiden voyage of this “calligraphy and painting ship”. It carries the secluded charm of the literati and brings 38 original works by 28 masters, including Xu Beihong, Yan Wenliang, and Pan Yuliang, back to Nanjing. It allows the brushstrokes from a century ago to engage in a dialogue with the contemporary artistic context.

This is not merely an exhibition hall; it is also a vehicle for Cao Jun to integrate the traditional literati sentiments into the contemporary context. He secluded himself by the riverbank for calligraphy, dedicated to the inheritance of cultural heritage. With this contemporary “calligraphy and painting ship”, he awakens the artistic memories of Nanjing and enables the century-old spirit of literati to be passed down from generation to generation along the banks of the Yangtze River.

If you have the time, why not board this “painting boat” and witness “The Return of the Masters”?

The tea for today is all gone. Next time, I’ll brew a fresh pot and enjoy art with you again.

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

[8

post-8568","post","type-post","status-publish","format-video","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-mr-shan","post_format-post-format-video","entry","has-media
["GET
