It looks similar to jichi wood, but their wood properties and textures are quite different. It became extinct in the middle of the Qing Dynasty, and large pieces of wood are hard to come by, with old pieces being extremely rare. It combines extremely high artistic and collection value.

This spring auction ofChina Guardian has collected two pieces from the former collection of the California Classical Furniture Museum in the United States. They are presented following the research line of Mr. Wang Shixiang on Ming-style furniture, which significantly enhances the value of the furniture section in this auction!

The xichi wood special collection gathers three masterpieces, each a fine piece. The xichi wood rectangular table with everted flanges and phoenix design was recorded by Mr. Wang Shixiang. It is made of a single large board, a typical “one piece of jade”. Mr. Wang Shixiang described it as “especially splendid, dense and mysterious, reflecting the sun and floating, truly like the colorful feathers of a brocade pheasant.Only by cutting it diagonally can such a texture be achieved, but diagonal cutting will inevitably increase the cost. Not sparing the cost to obtain beautiful materials, the resulting piece is naturally ten times more valuable.” The phoenix pattern is carved with great skill, lively and elegant, with upturned phoenix eyes, full of spirit. It is a classic example of the Ming-style furniture style.

The five-legged round incense table with xichi wood inlaidstone surfacehas a refined shape. The combination of stone and wood adds an elegant touch to the study. This piece is recorded in the Xiao Gu Shan Guan. In the past, lacquer and huanghuali incense stands were common, but those made of the xichi wood were rare. Mr. Zeng Xiaojun only has this one.

This pair of high-waisted, xichi wood inlaid ebony kang table with zigzag mouldingare genuine product of the Qianlong period. The inlaid-ebony technique is exactly the same as that of the flat table from the Qianlong period in the collection of the Summer Palace. It is also included in Mr. Tian Jiaqing’s “Appreciation and Research on Furniture from the Ming and Qing Dynasties”. I have seen the one in the Summer Palace, which fully demonstrates the meticulous craftsmanship.

Another piece, also from the former collection of the California Classical Furniture Museum in the United States and recorded by Mr. Wang Shixiang, is a huanghuali wood foldable kang table with dragon design from the Ming Dynasty. This time, it is displayed as a special topic. The ingenious design of its foldability and the exquisite carving of the dragon patterns fully demonstrate the wisdom of Ming-style furniture in creation.

This batch of exquisite pieces, brimming with academic depth, vividly showcases the materials, craftsmanship and charm of Ming and Qing furniture, making the China Guardian Spring Auctions 2026 even more anticipated!

Collecting holds a world of secrets. That’s all for today. We’ll continue next time.

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

[8

post-8610","post","type-post","status-publish","format-video","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-mr-shan","post_format-post-format-video","entry","has-media
["GET
