Interview 001 | Tian Jiaqing – Prefers simplicity, excels in craftsmanship

From the exhibition “The world adoresbeauty and splendor, I am fond of simplicity and plainness”, one can see Wang Shixiang’s detachment from the superficial and his commitment to the genuine. The large rosewood painting table designs he and Tian Jiaqing created did not pursue the luster of rare materials; instead, they focused on meticulously polishing the details of the craftsmanship. Good materials need to be matched with exquisite techniques and ideas in order for the inherent nature of the wood to truly unfold in the objects. The highest level lies in artistry. The choice of the carrier is valuable when it is used appropriately, rather than seeking its rarity.
