「Look at the Picture and Talk about the Painting」Ma Kelu’s boundless artistic perspective

The artistic encounter between Ma Kelu and Chen Danqing was a unique connection in the art circle. Many years ago, Chen Danqing invited me to participate in the opening ofMa Kelu’s exhibition, which allowed more people to appreciate the charm of Ma Kelu’s abstract art.

His brushstrokes seem to contain a thousand pounds of force, with ups and downs, the lines are sharp yet conceal delicate rhythms. The brushstrokes seem to be the direct expression of his inner emotions, each stroke is filled with power and rhythm.

“The rite of spring”series features bright and lively colors. He closely integrates the landscape imagery with the emotional aspects of life. Those vivid colors interweave and collide, creating a dynamic and passionate atmosphere, making the viewers feel as if they can sense the vigorous power of life.

Ma Kelu constantly innovates in his exploration. From the early stage of absorbing Western modernist artistic elements to the later stage of in-depth thinking about traditional Chinese painting’s freehand brushwork, blank space, and calligraphic nature, the “Ah Da” series not only contains the splashing and pouring of Western abstract expressionism, but also integrates the writing rhythm of Chinese calligraphy, and carries the minimalist flat presentation. Yet it transcends the boundaries of all these elements, becoming his concise expression of cross-cultural exploration, forming his unique artistic language.

The surging brushstrokes, the tension of colors, the integration of Eastern and Western elements, true art does not need labels to define it. The natural growth of creation is the most touching core of art.

The tea for today is all gone. Next time, I’ll brew a fresh pot and enjoy art with you again.
