What is art? What is the use of art?
In life, eating, drinking, and having fun are always by our side, and art is also a kind of “play”. Chen Danqing shared with me that learning photography is to find a source of joy for his old age. This seemingly casual “play” actually conceals the true essence of art.
Art is not an unattainable object in a lofty hall, it integrates into our lives in such an approachable manner. From the perspective of personal growth, art is far more than mere entertainment. During the process of growing up, we are accustomed to accepting the knowledge imposed by the outside world, and our thinking tends to become rigid. However, art breaks this conventional mode of thinking. When we immerse ourselves in artistic creation or appreciation, our thoughts are unconsciously reorganized and combined, thus forming a unique way of thinking and perceiving the world from a fresh perspective.
Learning art may not necessarily bring wealth, but it can endow us with a unique understanding of the world and love, helping us break away from blind following and grow into independent, charming individuals. It enhances our aesthetic sense, allowing us to see the beauty in life, and strengthens our sensitivity, making us more inclusive and perceptive in communication. The German philosopher Kant once said, “Art is essentially a free game.” Indeed, art is just an indispensable color game in our lives.
